    Programs that provide counseling services for individuals at risk for contracting or transmitting the HIV virus with the objective of supporting their ability to make behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV. Counseling involves a personal risk assessment, development of a personalized action plan and the decision to seek an HIV test. Individuals who have a history of injection drug use, sex with a person with HIV/AIDS, sex with a man who has sex with other men, sex with an injection drug user, a sexually transmitted disease, or exchanging money or drugs for sex are considered to be at high or increased risk and are targets for prevention counseling.

    HIV Education - San Luis Valley Health Education CenterThe SLVAHEC has been providing HIV prevention services to the San Luis Valley (SLV) community since 1990 in collaboration with the Colorado AIDS Education and Training Center. Services have included: training of health care providers on HIV/AIDS since 1990; organizing an annual AIDS Candlelight Vigil since 1994 in collaboration with Adams State College; and providing HIV prevention education to the SLV community since 1990.     HIV/STI Outreach Program (Boulder - 3482 Broadway) - Boulder County Public HealthThe HIV/STI Program offers rapid HIV testing using the Uni-Gold Recombigen HIV antibody test. It is a ten-minute finger-stick test that is 99.8% accurate when taken after three months from potential exposure. Testing is provided confidentially or anonymously. The records of people who choose to give their names will remain private and will not become part of permanent medical records or insurance records. People may also test without giving their names (anonymously). Rapid hepatitis C antibody testing is provided for clients who have had any of the following potential exposures to the virus: - Used or shared needles to inject any kind of drugs including steroids and hormones - a blood transfusion before 1992 - ever been on hemodialysis - Has been the sexual partner of someone known to have Hepatitis C. Testing for Hepatitis C is offered confidentially. Test results become available in about twenty minutes.     Prevention Services (Greeley) - Northern Colorado AIDS Project - NCAPColorado Health Network (CHN) is a statewide organization in Colorado, serving nearly 4,000 individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and those at risk, as well as other program specific populations. CHN provides innovative, individualized services to those most in need, educates high risk populations, and advocates for social and health care equity. CHN empowers those living with or at risk of HIV to live healthier, enhanced lives by providing supportive services to those living with HIV/AIDS, and HIV and other health-related prevention and education services. CHN helps people live healthier lives is by educating those at risk of HIV, and working with them to choose safer behaviors so that they can decrease that risk over time. CHN achieves these goals through a spectrum of education and prevention services, addressing the broad population through media and community education, and providing more intensive, therapeutically based individual and group programs for those most likely to become HIV positive. CHN also provides regular HIV testing and STI testing to ensure as many people as possible are aware of their HIV status.     Prevention Services - Northern Colorado AIDS Project NCAPPrevention Services focus on Counseling, Testing, and Referral.
