Classes are approximately two hours long, held 3 - 4 times a week, on the following topics: - ESL: providing a sequence for gaining the English language and literacy skills needed for life, work, and civic engagement. - Adult Basic Education (ABE)/Adult Secondary Education (ASE): prepares students for high school equivalency exams such as the GED. - Citizenship (no cost): prepares individuals for naturalization, and includes periodic citizenship application workshops. - Computer: practices typing, creating documents, reading and sending e-mails, and using the internet. - Career Pathways: focuses on developing a career plan, gaining the English needed for a particular career track, and obtaining or improving employment. - Vocational Training at Providers' Resource Clearinghouse: offers individualized job training and case management that leads to employment for students with disabilities.     Employment Services - Department of Human Services (Weld)Employment Services offers several job-related programs. The Learning Lab provides vocational training and educational assistance to the Weld County Workforce. Participants receive computerized instruction and vocational assessments, GED preparation, remediation, and literacy courses. Also available are beginning, intermediate, and advanced ESL lessons, and computer program tutorials. A Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist is also available who can give assistance in filing claims, obtaining copies of DD214's, and questions about veteran's employee benefits.     Punto De Vista (Education/Outreach Language Project) - San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource CenterThis project provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adult immigrants in the San Luis Valley. The focus of this project is to serve as many adult ESL students as possible by coordinating times and places in order to eliminate the barriers of work, transportation, and other challenges. Depending on available funding, also offers citizenship classes as often as possible. Through ESL and citizenship education, immigrants are empowered to become active participants in their community. The Punto de Vista program also provides tutoring services to approximately 20 school age children four days per week at the Alamosa Migrant Housing complex Tierra Nueva, where they are assisted in completing their schoolwork during the school year.
