    Programs that provide assistance for veterans who are having difficulty understanding and/or obtaining the full benefits and services to which they are entitled by law based on service to their country. The programs may help veterans understand the eligibility criteria for benefits, the benefits provided by the program, the payment process and the rights of beneficiaries; provide consultation and advice; help them complete benefits application forms; negotiate on their behalf with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs staff; and/or represent them in administrative processes or judicial litigation. Included are veteran rights organizations that offer a range of advocacy services as well as legal aid programs that offer more formalized legal assistance.

    Veteran Employment Services - Mesa County Workforce CenterThe Mesa County Workforce Center ensures that all eligible veterans are provided with maximum employment and training opportunities, with priority given to disabled veterans and campaign veterans. Veterans who are ready, able, and qualified for jobs in which they are skilled receive assistance with referrals to jobs by Workforce Center Staff. Veteran's preference is given for referrals if the veteran meets the employer's qualifications for the positions listed through the JobLink system. The Veterans staff provides case management for those veterans who have significant barriers to employment. Training dollars for specific targeted groups are provided to assist in developing skills necessary to obtain employment. Various assessment procedures are available to help the veteran determine his or her interests and levels of skill competency. The Veterans staff works closely with the VA Medical Center, the veteran and State Vocational Rehabilitation programs, the DAV, the Mesa County Veterans Service Officer, and various other veterans organizations in facilitating a wide range of assistance to the veteran including, but not limited, to the filing of disability claims, securing discharge papers, and being a general advocate on issues of concern.
