A new law will require some taxpayers to renew their ITINs. An ITIN will expire at the end of 20178: - If the ITIN has a middle digit of 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 81 or 82 (i.e. 9XX-70-XXXX). - If the ITIN has not been used on a federal tax return at least once in the last three years will also expire. ITINs with middle digits 70, 71, 72, 78, 79 and 80 already expired at the end of 2016 and 2017. If you did not review an ITIN with these middle digits last year, you may still need to renew.
