Description of Service
Provides emergency shelter in cold weather at the Comitis Crisis Center for single adults, families with children, and couples, without residency restrictions. LGBT and gender non-conforming individuals are welcome. Must be on a cold weather alert (call to verify alert status). Operates 24 hours/7 days a week when weather conditions are met. Also offers bus tokens, meals, and referrals to shelter participants.
Statewide (City of Aurora given priority)
Call to verify in Cold Weather Alert or walk in for assistance. No lottery will be held during Cold Weather Alert activation. Intake will begin at 5 p.m. for families and 6 p.m. for single individuals and couples.
Must provide within one week of first entry:
- Photo ID for adults
- Birth certificates for minors
Shelter is provided overnight, on a day-by-day basis depending on the length of the Cold Weather Alert activation. During good weather conditions the intake line can be called any time before noon to apply and then again at 2 p.m. to listen for winners' names.
