General Information
Description of ServiceDesigned for youth ages 11-18, Emotional Intelligence and Critical Decision Making is an 8-week skills-based curriculum specifically tailored to address concerns and difficulties youth are experiencing around making healthy decisions for themselves as well as how to recognize their emotions, especially anger, and manage them in non-violent ways. This course covers:
- Identifying multiple choices for any one decision
- Considering potential positive and negative consequences of their choices
- Stopping and thinking before acting
- Communicating needs, wants and feelings in a healthy and productive way
- Understanding the difference between passive, aggressive, and assertive uses of power
- Recognizing and understanding the positive and negative attributes of anger
- Conflict management
- Handling authority
- Identifying realistic alternatives to fighting
- Recognizing the physiological signs of anger, as well as personal triggers
- Utilizing cooling off techniques for de-escalation
- Problem solving using the 6-step method

Parents or guardians participate in the class sessions that focus on family communication and skill-building. Certificate of completion issued on the last day of class.
