Description of Service
Colorado Works/Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) is a federal program that provides cash assistance to eligible low-income pregnant women and single and two-parent families with dependent children while working to secure or improve employment and achieve self-sufficiency.
Those that apply for Colorado Works/TANF may also apply for Food Assistance/SNAP and Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid Program). Cooperation with Child Support Services is required unless good cause is established.
Child Care Assistance and other supportive services may be available for those prepared for or seeking employment. If approved for Colorado Works/TANF, recipients may be required to participate in a work related activity.
Undocumented immigrants are not eligible to receive Colorado Works/TANF, but US born citizen children of undocumented immigrants may be eligible for Colorado Works/TANF if the family meets all other eligibility criteria.
If you are a minor parent, you must attend high school or a GED program and live with your parents or in another approved setting.

In general, services are available to: Women beginning in their 6th month of pregnancy, and families that have one or more children in the home who has been deprived of parental support or care because of the absence, disability, unemployment or death of either parent.
