General Information
Description of ProgramRescues dogs from animal shelters and professionally trains them to help people and enhance lives. Dogs for the Deaf (DFD) has two different adoption programs that are provided free of charge:
- Hearing Dogs are trained to alert people to household sounds that are necessary for everyday safety and independence.
- Program Assistance Dogs go to work with and assist professionals such as physicians, teachers, and counselors who work 20 or more hours a week with the clients they serve.

Intake RequirementsApplicants for Hearing Dogs will need to provide the following:
- Application
- Audiogram (no older than 2 years)
- Letter of reference from nonfamily member
- HIPPA form
- Physician's assessment
- $50 nonrefundable application fee

Applicants for Program Assistance Dogs will need to provide the following:
- Application
- Letter of reference from nonfamily member
- Employer Authorization
- $50 nonrefundable application fee

EligibilityApplicants for Hearing Dogs must:
- Be 18 or older
- Live in the continental US
- Have hearing loss
- Have no other dogs in the household
- Fenced area preferred

Applicants for Program Assistance Dogs must
- Be a licensed teacher working with IEP students, licensed therapist, or doctor that works 20 hours minimum per week with clients
- Fenced area preferred
